The Museum of Photography and Contemporary Visual Arts aims to present the history and development of photography in both its technical and artistic aspects, both in this country and in the world at large. As the only such centre in the country, the museum focuses on the Bulgarian contribution in this field. The museum was officially opened on 5 June 2015 as one of the highlights of the programme of the Rose Festival in Kazanlak. The first director was engineer Stefan Papukchiev. In the short time of its existence, the museum has presented over 50 temporary exhibitions of all genres of photography. The prestigious photo-pleiner "In the Valley of Roses" is organized annually. The museum hosts book presentations, specialized lectures, concerts, charity campaigns. This municipal cultural institute, the newest in Kazanlak, has already established itself as a natural attraction for professional photographers, film-makers, guardians of local and national historical memory, and generous donors. In less than three years, hundreds of exhibits of photographic equipment, supplies and materials, archival photographs, books and documents, many of them of historical value, have been added to the museum's holdings. The museum is developing research and publishing activities. The team of specialists, in cooperation with the Kazanlak Municipality, has already successfully completed two publishing projects related to the history of the Rose Festival in Kazanlak.
