The Thracian, late antique and medieval fortress of Gradi is located about 4 km as the crow flies from the town. It is located on a distance of 4 km from the town of Kran. It is built on a height in the shape of a truncated cone, on an almost circular terrace. It was surrounded on all sides by a fortress wall. The total area of the fortress is 4 acres. The buildings have remained almost intact. Temples and houses are clearly distinguishable. Only the walls have been destroyed. During the Turkish invasion of 1370-1374, the fortress was captured and destroyed. The surviving inhabitants founded a settlement nearby, whose successor is the town of Shipka.
