Description

The first in the country monument to the Holy Equal Apostles. It was officially unveiled on 24 May, 1933. It is the work of Kazanlak teacher Ivan Topalov. Topalov graduated from the Kazanlak Pedagogical School (today's Profiled Humanities High School "St. St. Cyril and Methodius") in 1923, then graduated from the State Academy of Arts. He returned to his native school as an art teacher, where his idea to create this monument was born. He made a plaster cast of the monument he is presenting. He attractws students and citizens to collect copper vessels. The monument was cast from the collected baker's wares melted down at the Military State Factory and the Mechanical Technical School. The bronze sculpture is a full-length representation of the two first teachers with a book in their hands. When the plaque was unveiled it was inscribed "In the beginning was the word..." and now the inscription is "А, Б, В". The monument has been refurbished with a slab of black granite on which are inscribed the names of the two Equal Apostles.
