Catholic Church of the Eastern Rite "St. Joseph" - Kazanlak

In 1921 Bishop Epifaniy Shanov returned to his hometown Kazanlak. He bought a property on P. Yavorov Street, which he adapted for his residence and arranged one of the rooms for a chapel. Due to the increase in the number of the faithful, he decided to demolish the house and build a new parish house and church, which remained unfinished. After 1944 the whole property was confiscated and given to "Arsenal" Kazanlak for a kindergarten. For 40 years the parish in Kazanlak was served by an incoming priest. At the beginning of the nineties the property was restituted and returned to the Catholic Apostolic Exarchate of Sofia. At the request of Bishop Metodi Stratiev in 1994 priests from the Catholic monastic society of the Salesians of Don Bosco from the Czech Republic were assigned to Kazanlak.
